Remembering 911

Tuesday September 2, 2003
As we approach the second anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks and the loss of lives in New York City, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania, I have been reading and rereading some of the children's literature published in the aftermath. I continue to find comfort in "This Place I Know: Poems of Comfort." The poems in the book, each of which is illustrated by a well-known illustrator, were selected by author and teacher Georgia Heard. She began gathering poems right after September 11 at the request of the superintendent of district 2 in Manhatten. The superintendent wanted Heard to find "poems of comfort" that could be read to the New York City schoolchildren who had experienced the tragedy.

Post your opinion of the book and/or your recommendations of other children's books related to 911 on the About Children's Books Forum. recall recall
