Children's Book Awards

Sunday October 19, 2003
In addition to the major children's book awards and the state children's book awards I have listed, authors and illustrators are also often recognized through other awards. Last night, I attended the Kansas Governor's Arts Awards dinner and ceremony. One of the recipients of an Individual Artist Award was Roderick Townley, a Kansas writer who has published a dozen books in five genres - poetry, fiction, nonfiction, criticism, and children's literature. He has received a great deal of recognition for his children's book The Great Good Thing, a fantasy novel for 9-12 year olds. A fellowship from the Kansas Arts Commision enabled him to complete the book.

How often do you select children's books on the basis of their having won awards? Vote in our poll and join the discussion.recall recall
