Governor General’s Literary Awards

Monday November 10, 2003
Today, the Canada Council for the Arts announced the four winners of the 2003 Governor General’s Literary Awards for children’s literature. Two awards, one for text and one for illustration, went to English-language books, and two awards went to French-language books. In the English-language category, Glen Huser of Edmonton won for the text of Stitches, while Cree visual artist Allen Sapp of North Battleford, Saskatchewan won for his illustrations in The Song Within My Heart.

According to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, "To give children an opening to the miraculous world of literature through the excellence of these winners is perhaps one of the most important things we can do for them." In our discussions, we have been talking about favorite Canadian authors, like Jean Little. If you have other Canadian authors or awards you'd like to recommend, post your suggestions on the About Children's Books Forum.recall recall
