Curious George, TV, and Encouraging Reading

Wednesday November 12, 2003
I did a tip sheet some time ago on how to use TV, videos, and movies to promote reading. I was reminded of it when I came across a Yahoo report that in addition to the upcoming animated film version of the classic children's book Curious George, an animated, PBS television series for preschoolers is also in development and will debut in 2006. According to the report, the show "will draw upon George's curiosity-driven adventures to tell stories that encourage kids to explore their own environments, and the way people and animals interact with objects and machines." What do you think about all of this?

Have you had any success in using TV, movies, and videos to interest your child in reading? What did you do and how did you do it? Let us know by posting your comments on the About Children's Books Forum. recall recall
