Get Ready for Kwanzaa!
Thursday December 11, 2003
It's time to get ready for Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa was established in 1966 as an African-American holiday by educator Dr. Maulana Karenga. Since then, it has increased in popularity every year as more and more African-American families celebrate the holiday, and more and more children learn about Kwanzaa and its seven principles in school. Whether your family is looking for children's Kwanzaa books because you celebrate the holiday or because you are interested in learning more about it, there are a number of excellent children's books available. You'll find information about five of my favorites on my Kwanzaa Top Picks page.
Sherri Osborn, the About Family Crafts Guide, has directions for all kinds of Kwanzaa crafts on her site. For Kwanzaa clip art, see the About Web Cip Art site, and for more about the history of Kwanzaa, visit the About African-American History site.
I am continuing to collect recommendations of good children's books about holidays. If you have a favorite Kwanzaa, Christmas, Valentine's Day, or other holiday book for a child, let us know by posting a message about it on the About Children's Books Forum. recall
