Monday January 12, 2004
Today, The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announced its 2004 Book/Media Award winners at the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting. These include the prestigious Caldecott Medal and the Newbery Medal. Caldecott and Newbery Honor Books were also announced. The 2004 winner of the Newbery Medal is The Tale of Despereaux (see my review), written and illustrated by Kate DiCamillo and published by Candlewick Press. The 2004 Caldecott Medal was awarded to The Man Who Walked Between the Towers, which was written and illustrated by Mordicai Gerstein. For more information about these books and to learn about the other award winners, visit the ALA's website. For information about the winners in 2002 and 2003, see my article. Share your opinion of the winners by joining our discussion about books published in 2003 that we feel deserve awards. recall recall
