Spotlight on Artist Jerry Pinkney
Tuesday January 27, 2004
If you visit this site often, you probably know that one of my favorite children's book illustrators is Jerry Pinkney. I was pleased to find a very interesting essay by Jerry Pinkney on the website of the Childrens Book Council. In the essay, Pinkney discusses the people, books, and experiences that have influenced him, stating, "My life experiences have guided, as well as given passion and voice to, the breath of my work today."
He cites three children's books that had a particular impact on him: "Wind in the Willows, illustrated by Arthur Rackham; The Wonder Clock, illustrated by Howard Pyle; and Rain Makes Applesauce, illustrated by Marvin Bileck."
