Spotlight on Children's Book Publisher Candlewick Press

I just completed the first in a series of profiles of children's book publishers. Each profile will include information about the company's history, books, awards and honors, and website. I will also include my favorite books from each publisher, with links to those I've reviewed. I chose to do the first profile on Candlewick Press because I like so many of their books.

If you don't recognize the name Candlewick Press, you may recognize the company's logo, which features a bear carrying a lighted candle. According to the publisher's website, "Our logo, Big Bear spiriting a candle through the dark, reminds us that our authors and illustrators are truly the best and brightest in the business: Jez Alborough, M.T. Anderson, Avi, Anthony Browne, Lucy Cousins, Michael Emberley, Paul Fleischman, Wilborn Hampton, Martin Handford, Robie H. Harris, Kevin Hawkes, Amy Hest, Anita Jeram, Dick King-Smith, Kathryn Lasky, P.J. Some of these others include Newbery Medal winner Kate DiCamillo, Florence Parry Heide, Vladimir Radunsky, Chris Raschka, and Lauren Child.

Among the Candlewick Press books I've reviewed are "The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup, and a Spool of Thread," "Kiss Good Night," "A Poke in the I: A Collection of Concrete Poems," and "Because of Winn-Dixie."
