J.K. Rowling Chats about Book Six and More

Saturday March 6, 2004
As part of the UK's World Book Day Online Festival on March 4, J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, participated in a chat about her books. She responded to a a variety of specific questions, including a dozen questions from UK school children who were the winners of a Festival competition. More than 16,000 questions were submitted by students, and twelve were selected.

The transcript of the chat is on The Leaky Cauldron website. Both the questions themselves and Rowling's answers are interesting. In response to a question about when book six would be released, Rowling said, "I can't say when it will be released because that's down to my publishers. But it's going really well. I am loving writing it."

Responding to a request for writing tips, Rowling said, "Read as much as you can. Keep writing and then throwing it away until one day you do something that you don't think belongs in the bin. Stick to writing what you know about. Don't give up."

Several news reports speculated that Rowling might consider doing more than seven Harry Potter books because, in her response to the question, "Are you going to write books about Harry after school?," Rowling replied, "Probably not, but I'll never say never because every time I do I immediately break the vow!" Have you or your children read "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"? What did you think of it? Do you think that because Harry is growing up that it is more of a YA (Young Adult) book than a children's book? Why? Why not? Join our discussion on the About Children's Books Forum. recall recall
