Jim Trelease, the author of "The Read-Aloud Handbook," is a strong literacy advocate. According to an article in the Redlands Daily News, Trelease feels that both the Oprah Winfrey Book Club and Harry Potter fan clubs have had a major impact in terms of motivating people to read.
"The Read Aloud Handbook" is an excellent book. Trelease provides a great deal of information about why it is so important to read aloud to your child and recommends numerous books. For more information and recommended read-alouds, see my directory of links.
