Canadian Award Short List Announced

The Ontario Arts Council has announced the Short List for the 2004 Ruth Schwartz Award For Excellence In Canadian Children’s Literature. In the Picture Books category are
  • "Good Night Sam," written and illustrated by Marie-Louise Gay,
  • "Lighthouse: A Story of Remembrance," written by Robert Munsch, illustrated by Janet Wilson,
  • "Pippin the Christmas Pig," written by Jean Little, illustrated by Werner Zimmermann,
  • "Suki’s Kimono," written by Chieri Uegaki, illustrated by Stéphane Jorisch, and
  • "The Subway Mouse," written and illustrated by Barbara Reid.
In the Young Adult/Middle Reader Books category are
  • "Ann and Seamus," by Kevin Major,
  • "Boy O’Boy," by Brian Doyle,
  • "Mud City," by Deborah Ellis,
  • "Run," by Eric Walters, and
  • "The Several Lives of Orphan Jack," by Sarah Ellis.
