Encouraging Your Child to Read

Thursday April 29, 2004
Summer is rapidly approaching, and you'll want to do everything you can to encourage your child to read over the summer. One of the best things you can do is to find books that will fit with your child's interests. Did you know that you can create your own customized lists of children's books using an online database? Check out the Database of Award-Winning Children's Literature (DAWCL). You can search using a variety of search categories, including age, setting, historical period, format, genre, and ethnicity/nationality of the protagonist or tale. It's easy to use, and you can find books for children up to 14+ on the DAWCL.

If you are looking for books for a particular age or grade level, check my Books by Age/Grade directory, and check back often for updates. For books to read aloud, tips on how to do it, and information on why it's important, check my Read Alouds directory.
