The ALA Notable Books List

Friday April 30, 2004
With more than 5,000 books for children published every year, how is it possible to find the good ones? One of the best resources is your local library. Another is the annual Notable Children's Books List, which is compiled each year by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC)/American Library Association (ALA).

The Notable Children's Books List is divided into four categories: Younger Readers, Middle Readers, Older Readers, and All Ages. It includes a summary of each book and lists any major ALA awards the book has won. When looking for recent children's books, just make a hard copy of the List and take it with you to the library and/or bookstore.

What's popular with your kids right now? Post a message on the About Children's Books Forum and let me know how old your children are and what they are reading.
