Movie Version of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" an International Hit

Thursday June 17, 2004
The movie version of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" is breaking attendance records, according to news reports. The Australian reported,
"With a wizard score of the fourth-biggest opening four days of all time at the Australian box office, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban achieved the biggest Monday of all time in Australian cinemas, earning $2.86 million."
On June 13, CBS 2 reported,
"'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' was the top movie for a second weekend, taking in $35.1 million to lift its 10-day total to $158.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday."
On June 15, the BBC reported,
"The new Harry Potter film, The Prisoner of Azkaban, will continue its quest for global domination when it opens in 22 more countries this weekend." The BBC also reported that the movie "...has already made $362m (£200m) around the world.."
As soon as you see the movie, let me know how you and your children feel about it by posting a message on the About Children's Books Forum. I would also appreciate it if you would post a message with your predictions as to the plot of Harry Potter Book Six.

As always, if you are looking for information about the Harry Potter series, my recent article about Harry Potter Book Six, censorship, or recommended books for children who enjoy the Harry Potter books, you'll find it in my Harry Potter Plus directory.
