Spotlight on Mexican American Author and Poet Pat Mora

Friday July 9, 2004
Pat Mora, the editor of "Love to Mamá: A Tribute to Mothers" (see my review), is a Mexican American author and poet who has written a number of books for adults and children. Her children's books include "Tomas and the Library Lady" and "Confetti: Poems for Children."

"There's an interesting feature on Pat Mora on the Reading Rockets website. It includes an interview, complete with video clips, a short, annotated booklist with cover art, and a biography. According to the feature,
"Her most common themes are family, Mexican-American culture, and the desert. Since growing up along the border as a second-generation Mexican American, Mora has become a valuable translator between Hispanic and non-Hispanic audiences....Mora’s charming picture books also reach out across cultures. They are available in English and Spanish, but are often bilingual."
Do you share books about other cultures with your children? Vote in my poll and join the discusssion on the About Children's Books Forum.
