Director Announced for Movie Version of "The Tale of Despereaux"

Tuesday July 20, 2004
According to a report on the Hollywood Reporter website,
"French director Sylvain Chomet, whose 'The Triplets of Belleville' was nominated for an Oscar for best animated film this year, has signed on to direct 'The Tale of Despereaux' for Universal Pictures."
More than one million copies of The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup, and a Spool of Thread" have been sold. The book is is a wildly entertaining novel with some important messages about being yourself and redemption. I recommend it for 8-12 year olds. Author Kate DiCamillo won the 2004 Newbery Medal for this fascinating fairy tale. Contrary to earlier reports, the article states, "No writer is attached to the project. DiCamillo did a treatment."
