In Memory of Bill Martin Jr.

Saturday August 14, 2004
I was sorry to hear from the Child_Lit listserv about the death of Bill Martin Jr., who died August 11, 2004 at the age of 88. According to his obituary in the Herald-Banner,
"Martin's books, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom are considered classics of children's literature. His last book, Chicka, Chicka 1 ... 2 ... 3, is currently number seven on the Dallas Morning News best-seller list."
"Brown Bear, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" is number one on my list of classic board books for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Like several other books by Martin, it was illustrated by Eric Carle, the author and illustrator of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."
