A Good General Guide to Children's Books

When someone tells me they are looking for a good general guide to children's books, one of the books I recommend is "The New York Times Parent's Guide to the Best Books for Children." Eden Ross Lipson, the author, is the children's book editor of The New York Times. The "Guide" includes over 1,000 books published in the United States, most in the twentieth century.
