Wow! What a Huge Number of Children's Books!

Tuesday May 24, 2005
R.R. Bowker LLC, the company that provides ISBNs and other services to publishers, libraries, and booksellers and also tracks book industry statistics, released some startling statistics today. They included the following:
  • Based on preliminary figures, Bowker is projecting that U.S. title output in 2004 increased by 14% to 195,000 new titles and editions, reaching another all-time high.
  • New juvenile titles continued to rise in 2004, increasing 6.6% to 21,516, a new high for that category.
Wow!! No wonder the number of new children's books seems overwhelming. It is! To help you keep track of it all, I encourage you to subscribe to my free Children's Books weekly newsletter, which will alert you to new children's books and feature articles about children's books.
