Queen's Birthday Party Celebrates Children's Literature

Sunday June 25, 2006
Today, Queen Elizabeth will commemorate her 80th birthday with a party for 2,000 children and 1,000 adults in a special celebration of British children's literature According to the UK's Telegraph, those involved in the birthday party "include J K Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, Michael Bond, the author of the Paddington books, and Jacqueline Wilson, the Children's Laureate and best-selling writer." According to BBC News,
As well as a Mad Hatter's Tea Party, an all-star show about the Queen losing her handbag - to be broadcast on BBC One - will also be part of the day. . . .The show, entitled The Queen's Handbag, is an adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG.
I think the party is a wonderful way to spotlight British children's literature. It should be an unforgettable event for the lucky children and adults selected to attend.
