Artist and author Ezra Jack Keats is remembered as something of a pioneer for his use of minority children as main characters and his use of mixed media collages to create wonderful illustrations for his stories. Keats was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 1963 for his picture book The Snowy Day. Keats's Neighborhood: An Ezra Jack Keats Treasury was published in 2002 in honor of the 40th anniversary of The Snowy Day. This collection contains ten of his best stories, along with an essay by Anita Silvey and information on Keats' influence on children's literature. It would make a wonderful holiday gift for 3-6 year olds.
