The 2008 Coretta Scott King Book Award Winners

The Coretta Scott King Book Awards are presented annually. "Given to African American authors and illustrator[s] for outstanding inspirational and educational contributions, the Coretta Scott King Book Award titles promote understanding and appreciation of the culture of all peoples and their contribution to the realization of the American dream," according to the Coretta Scott King Book Awards website. Christopher Paul Curtis, author of Elijah of Buxton, is the winner of the 2008 Coretta Scott King Author Award. Writer and artist Ashley Bryan received the 2008 Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award for Let it Shine. Has anyone in your family read these books? What did you think of them? “Elijah of Buxton” is another gem by Christopher Paul Curtis and deserving of the honors it has received. And Ashley Bryan’s work is always a treat for the eyes. But what happened to “Henry’s Freedom Box?” It didn’t even get an honor and it deserved one.
