The Invention of Hugo Cabret - Movie Version Coming
Monday March 10, 2008
Have you and/or your kids read The Invention of Hugo Cabret, the 2008 Caldecott Medal winner by Brian Selznick? Because of the numerous sequential double-page spreads of dense pencil illustrations that wordlessly move the reader through time, space, and the story of the orphan Hugo Cabret for 284 pages of this 525-page novel, reading The Invention of Hugo Cabret is like entering a 1930s black and white movie. Now it's been announced that movie rights have been picked up for the book. It will probably be several years before it makes it to the screen, so there's plenty of time for you and your kids to read the book. I highly recommend it for older children and teens, as well as adults.
