The Read-Aloud Handbook

Wednesday August 6, 2008
Cover art of The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease "The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success is reading aloud to children." That quotation is from "Becoming a Nation of Readers," a national report by the Commission on Reading. Because I am convinced that reading aloud is the key to raising a reader, I am delighted to recommend the sixth edition of The Read-Aloud Handbook, which is as valuable a resource as previous editions. To learn more about the "why," "what," and "how" of reading aloud to your children, I recommend you read The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease. I consider The Read-Aloud Handbook to be an essential reference book for anyone interested in children, children's literature, and reading.
