Mommy? = Pop-up Fun for Halloween

Wednesday October 8, 2008
Mommy? cover art I couldn't resist buying my own copy of Mommy?, the first pop-up book illustrated by the extraordinary Maurice Sendak. Mommy? is an almost wordless pop-up book. Since it tells the story of a toddler searching for his mother among monsters and mummies, Mommy? is perfect for Halloween. Young children will find it deliciously creepy while older children and adults will appreciate the humor and the exceptional paper engineering. Maurice Sendak’s award winning books include Where the Wild Things Are, a Caldecott Medal winner.

Pop-up books have reached a new level with such artists as Robert Sabuda. REAL pop-up books that are engineered with a mastery and have extras, like Sabuda’s, are a joy and a real art. Not the pop-up books I grew up with, but I am over 40 and still buying them and they are wonderful!
