Two Good Books About the Day of the Dead
Tuesday October 14, 2008
I have two books about the El Dia de Los Muertos / The Day of the Dead to recommend.
- Photojournalist George Ancona does an excellent job of introducing El Dia de Los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, to 7-11 year old readers in Pablo Remembers: The Fiesta of the Day of the Dead. The photographs illustrating the book capture the essence of the holiday in this fascinating book about one Mexican family's observation of the Day of the Dead.
- Day of the Dead by Tony Johnston is a small book that tells the story of a Mexican family's preparations and celebration of the Day of the Dead. The striking and fanciful paintings by Jeanette Winter and the detailed story about the family's enjoyment in holiday preparations and activities will appeal to 6-9 year olds.
