Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Do-It-Yourself Book

Monday October 20, 2008
Cover Art - Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Do-It-Yourself Book The latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book is not a sequel. Instead, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Do-It-Yourself Book is filled with writing and illustrating prompts, as well as lots of space for young writers and illustrators to put their own words and pictures. Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the humorous “novel in cartoons,” and the second book in the series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, are very popular with middle school students, as well as a lot of fourth and fifth graders. Written and illustrated by Jeff Kinney, they are in the form of a diary in which middle school student Greg Haffley recounts his daily life, using both words and pictures. I predict that Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Do-It-Yourself Book will be a hit with fans of the series. I plan to give a copy as a holiday gift.

Our school just had their book fair and my son just HAD to have this book. He is only in second grade, but he loves it. There were several other kids in his grade who bought it, too, so it must be pretty popular. I bought the two “actual” books in the series to put back for Christmas; there is also supposed to be a third one coming out soon (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw).

I’ve been surprised at how many younger children love the books. I bought my copy at a school book fair, too.
