Eager for The Tale of Despereaux Movie?
If your kids have read The Tale of Despereaux, the 2004 Newbery Medal winner by Kate DiCamillo, they are probably eagerly awaiting the movie, an animated version of this entertaining fairy tale. If you are not familiar with The Tale of Despereaux, the book's subtitle, Being the story of a mouse, a princess, some soup, and a spool of thread, provides a clue that this is an unusual tale. I highly recommend it and hope your children will take the time to read it before they see the movie, which wil be released on December 19, 2008. This children's novel, an odd and engrossing fairy tale for 8-12 year olds, is also an excellent read-aloud for children 6-12.

This one was a keeper for my 10-year-old. We picked it up at the library and she ask for it for her birthday. She reads it over and over when she wants to ’settle’ into a story.
