Is Your New Year's Resolution to Write a Book?

Thursday January 8, 2009
If you are an aspiring (or published) author or illustrator of books for children and/or teens, you may find the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) a very helpful resource. I was reminded of SCBWI when a friend sent me information about a regional conference. Check the national SCBWI Web site for information about regional conferences all over the United States, as well as in South Africa, the British Isles, the Phillipines, and other countries. Conferences such as these can not only assist those of you who are writers and/or illustrators to improve your skills, they can also help you learn more about query letters and submitting your work to publishers. For more helpful resources for writers and illustrators, see my Getting Published directory.

I completely agree about getting involved with SCBWI in your local area. I started writing my children’s book series for speech development last year, and within a day or two of joining I was connecting with information I needed to know about publishing my own books.

And, because I was such a specific area of interested (Children’s Speech Development), I received great direction from editors and local conference attendees. Thanks SCBWI!
