It's International Children's Book Day - Let's Celebrate!

Thursday April 2, 2009
International Children's Book Day cover art Today is International Children's Book Day (ICBD), which is celebrated annually on or around the April 2 birth date of Hans Christian Andersen. Celebrate ICBD with a trip to the library for books about children from all over the world. Children's books can help children to learn about people from other countries, learn to appreciate and respect other cultures, and learn to get along with others. ICBD is sponsored by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY). The IBBY Web site states, "International Children's Book Day (ICBD) is celebrated to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children's books." The 2009 international sponsor of ICBD is EBBY - The Egyptian Section of IBBY. The 2009 theme is "I am the World."
