The Boy who was Raised by Librarians

Tuesday April 14, 2009
Cover art of the picture book The Boy who was Raised by Librarians Celebrate National Library Week by thanking a librarian. I not only recommend The Boy who was Raised by Librarians for 4-8 year olds, I also recommend it as a gift for your favorite librarian. This amusing, warm-hearted picture book celebrates the impact that public libraries and librarians can have on the lives of children. The author, Carla Morris, is a children's librarian herself. The illustrator, Brad Sneed, has created full page illustrations alive with fun and action. Do you have a special librarian that you'd like to honor? (1) childrensbooks says:

Growing up in Westfield, New Jersey, my favorite librarian was Miss Wright. She was strict, fair, and knew everything about children’s books.

Here in Wichita, Kansas, our family’s favorite children’s librarian was Blossom Randall, another librarian who was strict, fair, and knew everything about children’s books.

I think the reason I have always particularly appreciated strict librarians is that I was brought up to believe that good books are a treasure and should be protected. I liked the fact that my favorite librarians protected the books by teaching us how to turn the pages properly and care for the books.

(2) Cheryl Miller says:

6 kids 6 grandkids all out of state, husband’s job took me to new area. I stumbled on request for volunteers for readers who visit preschools. I’m now Auntie Red who visits the preschool right behind my home. The reading program from the library makes it so easy – check out a bag each week with themed books, puppet, finger puppets, felt board story. The kids are so excited, “It’s the library lady!”
