Picture Book Cover Art of I Am Too Absolutely Small For SchoolI was pleased to see Dick King-Smith and Lauren Child on the UK's New Year 2009 Honours List in recognition of their contributions to children's literature. Dick King-Smith, the author of more than 100 children's books, was awarded an OBE. The popular children's movie Babe was adapted from his book The Sheep-Pig. Lauren Child, who is both a children's author and illustrator, was awarded an MBE. She is most known for her Charlie and Lola picture books and TV series and her Clarice Bean books. (1) Victoria Bartlett :

I adore Lauren Child books, especially Charlie and Lola, but my 4 1/2-year-old grandson has been so-so about them. Now that he’s just become a big brother to a baby sister, I’m thinking that they might have more appeal in the story-reading days ahead. He does love the movie Babe, however. Congrats to both authors!
