Spotlight on John Henry

The children's picture book John Henry combines a fascinating tale by Julius Lester with award-winning artwork by Jerry Pinkney, the winner of the 2010 Randolph Caldecott Medal for The Lion and the Mouse. John Henry was designated a 1995 Caldecott Honor Book for the excellence of Pinkney's illustrations. Some of the things that make this book about the African American folk hero memorable include:
