If you have a teenager, you may have heard the term steampunk (I hadn't), but if you'd like to know more about it and the young adult authors creating steampunk, watch this video about steampunk from the School Library Journal Day of Dialog. It shows the panel discussion titled Steampunkery: Why are today's teens embracing 19th-century technologies? Author Cory Doctorow served as the moderator of this interesting and entertaining panel discussion. Authors Scott Westerfeld and Cherie Priest and Karen Grenke, Library Manager, New York Public Library and fan girl, served as panelists. How completely timely that you posted this story as it is a feature/cover article on our weekend newspaper magazine in the Detroit Free Press! I watched part of the clip (eye Dr Appt) but will have to ask my husband, who is a beyond avid comic collector, if HE is familiar with this – I’m sure he’ll say yes. Funny, I bet this is something I would have totally been into as a teen because of my interest in both light scifi and history. Very cool!
