Pizza, Pigs, and Poetry: How to Write a Poem

Summer is a great time to get your kids started on writing poetry. Pizza, Pigs, and Poetry: How to Write a Poem by Jack Prelutsky is one of a number of books on my list of best books for kids about writing poetry. Prelutsky has written more than 1,000 poems for kids. In 2006, The Poetry Foundation named Jack Prelutsky to a two-year term as the nation's first Children's Poet Laureate. With the books on my list, kids from 8 to young teens will learn about poetry forms, respond to poetry prompts, get advice from a variety of poets who write poetry for kids, read examples of their poetry, learn how to find ideas for poems and get tips on effective poetry writing.
