If you're looking for good beginning reader books to share with your child, take a look at some of the books that have been honored through the annual Theodor Seuss Geisel Award. The award is named after Theodor Geisel, known to generations of children and their families as Dr. Seuss. Some of the beginning reader books that have been honored include: - Bink and Gollie, written by Kate DiCamillo and Alison McGhee, with illustrations by Tony Fucile. (see 2011 Geisel award winners)
- Benny and Penny in the Big No-No!, a TOON book by Geoffrey Hayes (see 2010 Geisel award winners)
- Are You Ready to Play Outside? (see 2009 Geisel award winners) and There Is a Bird on Your Head! (see 2008 award winners), which are both Elephant and Piggie beginning reader books by Mo Willems
- Zelda and Ivy: The Runaways by Laura McGee Kvasnosky (see 2007 Geisel award winners)
- Henry and Mudge and the Great Grandpas by Cynthia Rylant, with illustrations by Suçie Stevenson (see 2006 award winners).
