During the spring and summer we tend to spend much more time outdoors, so it's a good time to share children's poetry books about nature - birds and other animals, plants and more. An Egret's Day by Jane Yolen is illustrated with striking photography by Jason Stemple. Each poem is accompanied by one or more photographs, along with additional information about the Great Egret. Dark Emperor & Other Poems of the Night by Joyce Sidman, with illustrations by Rick Allen, and Pieces: A Year in Poems & Quilts, which combines Anna Grossnickle Hines' poems about nature and the seasons with her beautiful miniature quilts, are others I recommend. What are your family's favorite poems for children? Share the titles and authors of favorite poems for children, as well as names of your favorite poetry books for children at Readers Respond.
