A Ball for Daisy by Chris Raschka cover artThe children's literature news of the week included:

New Book Announcement: If you and your kids loved A Ball for Daisy, for which Chris Raschka received the 2012 Randolph Caldecott Medal for picture book illustration, you'll be happy to know that a sequel, Daisy Gets Lost, is coming in the fall of 2013. The publisher is Schwartz and Wade Books, an imprint of Random House Children's Books (Source: PW Children's Bookshelf newsletter)

Books to Help Children Deal With Newtown, Connecticut Tragedy: Have you had a chance to look at the brief annotated booklist, Why Did It Happen? Books to Help Kids Cope with Tragedy, which was prepared by School Library Journal's Book Review staff? It includes cover art and recommended age ranges.

Top Science Books: See Outstanding Science Trade Books for Students K-12: 2013 (Books published in 2012) for an excellent annotated book list from the National Science Teachers Association. I'll be reviewing several of the books on the list in coming weeks.

Send eCard greetings for free: Thanks to Reading Rockets, you can send a "Season's Readings" eCard to a favorite young reader.
