In honor of the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, share some children's books about Abraham Lincoln and related resources with your kids. The Lincolns: A Scrapbook Look at Abraham and Mary is the biography of Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. The book is particularly appealing because of author Candace Fleming's use of period photographs, letters, engravings, cartoons and more in this nonfiction book. I was also pleased to learn through reading the Acknowledgments page how many scholars Fleming consulted with and how careful she was to have the entire contents of her book fact-checked before publication. I would recommend The Lincolns: A Scrapbook Look at Abraham and Mary as a reference book for tweens (ages 8-12), as well as teens and adults. It's the kind of book readers will enjoy dipping into again and again.
For more recommended books, see Children's Books About Abraham Lincoln. You might also show your kids images of the actual Emancipation Proclamation signed by Lincoln and share Facts About the Emancipation Proclamation.

I thought that book looked familiar. I reviewed it in this post, and included a Lincoln crossword puzzle, if anyone is interested.
I “had to” read it. It was compulsory during the university course
