- Scholastic has released its fourth Kids & Family Reading Report. Not surprisingly, it shows a significant increase in kids' use of eBooks, but it also reveals that 80% of those eBook readers "still read books for fun primarily in print." Gerald McDermott, author and illustrator of a number of colorful and award-winning children's books, and a talented filmmaker, died December 26, 2012. McDermott received the Randolph Caldecott Medal in 1975 for picture book illustration for Arrow to the Sun and two of his other picture books were honored as Caldecott Honor Books.
