Cover art of Z is for Moose children's alphabet bookIt's always a treat to discover a new twist on an old subject. In this case, I'm talking about ABC books and the very funny picture book Z is for Moose, a laugh-out-loud treat for children 3 and up. Kelly Bingham is the author and Paul O. Zelinsky is the illustrator. Because there is so much of the story to discover and talk about in the illustrations, librarian Nancy Snyder recommends sharing it with just one child or two at a time. If you are looking for an ABC book that makes a great read aloud for a group, try Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. My second grade students love Z is for Moose. After I read it aloud, it’s been a popular read-to-self selection–constantly in use. Other, alphabet books they really like are Q is for Duck (riddles), Alphabet City (wordless/hidden picture), and The Disappearing Alphabet (poems).
