I Wanted the Borrowers to be Real

Cover Art - The BorrowersSince I read and thoroughly enjoyed The Borrowers by Mary Norton when I was in fourth or fifth grade, I'm delighted that the book has become a classic and is still available. Even though I knew the Borrowers (miniature people who live in the walls of a home and "borrow" everything they need from the humans living there) weren't real, I really wanted them to be. I loved to imagine that we had Borrowers at our house. After all, if Borrowers were small enough to use sewing pins as knitting needles and spools of thread as stools that would explain why we always seemed to lose small objects, especially if they fell on the floor. Mary Norton wrote a total of five books about the Borrowers and the 2012 movie The Secret World of Arrietty is based on Norton's stories about the Borrowers.
