Beverly Cleary and the Ramona Quimby Movie
Wednesday May 17, 2006
For more than fifty years, Beverly Cleary has delighted young readers, particularly 8-12 year olds, with her humorous, yet realistic, stories about the ordinary lives of children. Fourteen of Cleary's books are set on Klickitat Street, which is based on her childhood neighborhood. Cleary's popular characters include Henry Huggins, Beatrice "Beezus" Quimby and Beezus' little sister, Ramona. Ramona has been the title character in the last seven of the Klickitat Street books. According to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle, Beverly Cleary has agreed to a movie based on her book Ramona and Her Father. - "She is taking her time in approving the script for the Ramona movie and making sure her beloved character 'doesn't turn into a plastic miniature inside a kid's fast-food restaurant meal.'" We love Ramona in our home! Happy Birthday Beverly Cleary!
I can’t wait for this movie. And as long as Ms. Cleary is involved with approving the script, I’m sure it’ll turn out fine.
RAMONA BOOKS ARE A GREAT SOURCE FOR CHILDREN TO DEAL WITH DAY TO DAY TRAGEDIES. ALL THE BOOKS ARE VERY HUMEROUS.
I am almost 27 now, but I grew up reading about Ramona. I still read them to my classes. Mrs. Cleary is right, the world has changed, but kids have not. The appeal for children now is that Ramona is messy and loud and a little bit unruly. They feel better about their struggles when they read about Ramona. Ramona maybe over 50 years old, but she is still relevent to kids now. I just love it!
I’m really excited for this movie! I hope they don’t pick a blonde-with-a-wig to play the part. That girl from Enough would be perfect to play either part of Ramona or Beazy the older sister! I can’t wait…I loved/continue to love these books!
