Beekeeping with "The Beeman"
With so many flowers in bloom, we are seeing a lot of bees in our yard. If you are, too, and your three to six year old is curious about bees, I recommend "The Beeman" by Laurie Krebs. As the title suggests, the book is about a man who is a beekeeper. One of the charms of the story is that it is told from the point of view of the beekeeper's young granddaughter who is learning all about beekeeping by watching and helping her grandfather. Melissa Iwai's colorful acrylic paintings engage the reader's attention throughout the book, starting with the painting of the befuddled looking "beeman" on the dust jacket staring at the bee that has landed on his nose.
