Jan Brett's Christmas Treasury
Jan Brett's engaging characters, the Scandinavian influence in her artwork, and her unique illustrations have made her a very popular children's illustrator and author. She creates detailed paintings that brim with action and color. What sets them apart is her use of wide borders filled with characters and additional activity. Her Christmas Treasury is a large and beautiful book, from its cover scene of Santa and his reindeer flying over the snow covered countryside, to the seven stories it contains. These include "The Mitten," which is based on a Ukranian folktale that tells how a child's lost mitten becomes a shelter for various animals in the forest, to several stories featuring Brett's irrepressible trolls to "The Twelve Days of Christmas."
