Teen Tech Week was established in 2007. It is an annual event. Teen Tech Week is a national initiative of YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association), a division of the American Library Association. Teen Tech Week 2013 will be held March 10–16. The 2013 theme is Check In @ your library. The purpose of Teen Tech Week is to help teens learn how to appropriately use technologies, with an emphasis on what public libraries offer, which can include everything from DVDs and audio books to video games.

During Teen Tech Week, public and school libraries will present a variety of programs. “'In the age of instant access to the Web it is extremely important that teens develop solid information literacy skills,' said Young Adult Library Services Association President Kim Patton. 'Often teens are left guessing what Web content is trustworthy and how much personal information they should share. Education is the key to safe and ethical use of the Web and other technologies, and Teen Tech Week will provide library staff with the opportunity to work with both parents and teens on how to become safe, smart and effective users of technology.'” (Source: 2/15/11 ALA Press Release)

Future Teen Tech Week events will be held on the following dates:

  • March 9-15, 2014
  • March 8-14, 2015.
