Harry Potter 6: What do we know for sure?

Rumor: An e-book version of the sixth Harry Potter book, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," is now available online.
Fact: In a BBC news report, the BBC announced, "Fans of Harry Potter are being urged to watch out for internet scams after a website claiming to offer copies of the Half-Blood Prince was closed down." Christopher Little, Rowling's literary agent, reported that this kind of scam had happened before and said, "I hope that all genuine fans will keep a wary eye out for this kind of thing."

Rumor: Although J.K. Rowling announced yesterday on her website that she had submitted the manuscript for Harry Potter 6 to her publisher, rumors had the publication date at least a year from now.
Fact: Today, in a joint announcement, Bloomsbury and Scholastic, the British and American publishers of the Harry Potter series, announced that "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" will be published on July 16, 2005 in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. According to the publishers, "J.K. Rowling has written a brilliant story that will dazzle her fans in a marvellous book that takes the series to yet greater heights. 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' delivers all the excitement and wonder of her bestselling Harry Potter novels."

Note that there is now a hyphen between "Half" and "Blood." I wonder what, if anything, that means. Join the discussion about "Half Blood" versus "Half-Blood" on the About Children's Books Forum.

Rumor: There are several rumors about Neville: 1. He and Luna will get together; and 2. The Lestranges were supposed to kill Neville.
Fact: J.K. Rowling recently squashed both rumors on her website. She was particularly vehement about the second rumor, stating, "No, they weren't; they were very definitely sent after Neville's parents.

Rumor: Harry Potter will stand trial in Harry Potter 6, "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince."
Fact: According to J.K. Rowling's website, "...I am happy to report that he leaves the Dursleys early for a much pleasanter reason than a court case."

Rumor: Dean Thomas is the half blood prince referred to in the title of Harry Potter 6.
Fact: This has been mentioned on our Forum:

I happen to think that the HBP is Dean Thomas. My reason is that we don't know anything about him and there can be a big revelation about him in the next book. JKR said that Dean was raised by Muggles but his father was a wizard who left his mother when he was born.
We have no way of knowing if this is true or not. I hope you will join the discussion and tell us what you think.

Rumor: J.K. Rowling will provide more details about Harry Potter 6 around Halloween, but visitors to her website will have to figure out how to find them.
Fact: According to news reports, that's exactly what Rowling did. A site in India, newkerala.com, reported that clever site visitors were able to find out the titles of three of the chapters in "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince": "Chapter 2: Spinners End, 6: Draco's Detour, 14: Felix Felicis." See Wizard News for details about how and where they found the titles on J.K. Rowling's website.
