Children's Book Publisher: Islandport Press
Islandport Press is an independent publisher of fiction and nonfiction for adults, CDs and DVDs of Down East humor and interest, as well as a small number of children’s picture books.According to the publisher,
- “Islandport Press is an independent award-winning publisher dedicated to producing quality books and other materials that detail and amplify the rich social, cultural and economic history of Northern New England. We strive to tell good, accessible stories that give authentic voice to real people.”
Among its books for children are picture books illustrated (or written and illustrated) by Dahlov Ipcar, whose artwork is in the collections of a number of museums, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Her 30+ children’s books were originally published between the 1940s and 1980s. Islandport Press has demonstrated its self-described commitment “to reviving and reissuing out-of-print classics or out-of-print books that we think should be classics” with the ongoing publication of some of Ipcar’s early children’s books.
Islandport Press also distributes a limited number of books from other publishers that are in line with the company’s mission, including some of the award-winning children’s books by Robert McCloskey, who received Caldecott honors for several of his picture books set in Maine.
