Overview:The Scientists in the Field series provides an excellent introduction to both careers in science and to specific scientific investigations. Several books in the Scientists in the Field series have been published annually since the series began in 1999. While individual books in the series vary, most will appeal to 9 to 14 year olds interested in the subject matter. However, most of the books in the series also work well as read alouds for younger children interested in the subject.

While the first few books in the series are 48-pages long, other books in the series are up to 82-pages long. All are profusely illustrated with high-quality color photographs. Some include maps. The page design and format of the books differ somewhat, as do the authors and photographers. However, each book features the fascinating story of a particular scientist and/or scientific investigation.
