Celebrate the Release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Join the celebration of the publication of Harry Potter Book 7 by attending a party in honor of the publication of the book, which will be released on July 21, 2007. If you are not sure where to find a Harry Potter Book 7 party near where you live, I've found some excellent online resources to assist you. If you are planning your own Harry Potter 7 party, there are also good online resources to help you make your Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows party a success.

How to Find a Harry Potter 7 Party

The best online resource I've found is PotterParties.com. According to its Web site, "Potter Parties is an international database of parties celebrating the release of the seventh Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It includes events in a number of countries. Among them are the United States (U.S.), Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Egypt, Germany, Italy, and the Philippines. For the U.S., the listings include parties in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Most of the parties are sponsored by bookstores, a few by libraries. Many of the party listings give detailed information about the parties. Generally, the parties begin sometime between 9:00 and 11:00 p.m. on July 20th and continue until 1:00 a.m. or later on July 21th, the date on which booksellers are allowed to sell copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. However, some parties will be held during the day on July 21st. Dates and times vary more widely for libraries sponsoring release parties.

You can also use the Midnight Party Finder on Scholastic's Harry Potter site to search for Harry Potter parties in the United States. You can search for them by state, then by city. However, the listings only include the names and addresses of bookstores holding parties and the times each party starts. They don't include details about planned party activities.

If you are looking for a party at a specific bookstore chain in the United States, try these resources:

• On the Borders Web site, you'll find specific information about Harry Potter day and evening events leading up to the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
• Use the Find a Midnight Magic Party locator to find the closest party at a Barnes & Noble store. Note that the parties generally start at 7:00 or 9:00 p.m. on July 20th.
• The Harry Potter Book 7 release parties start at 9:00 p.m. on July 20th at all 210 of the Books-A-Million stores.

If you have a favorite independent bookstore or public library, check its Web site or call for information about Harry Potter party plans.
